What settings does my Xbox 360 need to be on so that I can play Halo3 on Live with other people?

For Example, on Matchmaking it says "Network" which network do I need to be in? Also if I just started do I need to play basic training?

well you must have a connection to your network router and have the correct ip settings. and you must have xbox live gold membership
