Xbox DVD Game scratched/damaged with no money to buy cleaner. What would you do?

please read: I think my Xbox 360 game, Halo 3 is scratched/damaged-or it may be the DVD Drive.

I did this, in case it was my problem:

[QUOTE]Some players have reported issues with being able to load the maps after downloading the Autoupdate. This is an issue related to corrupted cache space on the Xbox 360. If you encounter this issue, where a map freezes at a certain percentage loaded, try restarting Halo 3 while holding down the “A” button and “Up” on the D-pad while the game is booting.

[/ENDQUOTE]

Whatever the above did, I could see the pictures of the levels I was about to play, and load the maps to play them. This is good.

After my first matchmaking game, the Xbox DVD/DVDdrive started making the repetitive "reading" sound again. Then, it was NOT working - like it did last night.

What should I try? Is turning the XBOX vertically ( | instead of _ ) a good thing to do? Is most (Kleenex) tissue good to clean a DVD with? It feels kind of silky (moisture-y) to me. Thx.
