when i connect to xbox live and i get into a game (ex. halo 3 matchmaking), other people in my family want to use our computer for the internet, but for some reason they cannot. we get a dns error when using internet explorer and we cant even sign on to aim or aol. they both work fine when only one of them is using my router. my router IS compatible with xbox live because i checked before i bought it.
i have tried a few things such as call earthlink, call netgear (my router), and also i called microsoft. none of them helped at all. i forwarded the xbox live ports on my router, i made my router a dchp server, and i also tried making static ip addresses for my computer and my xbox. none of them worked.
i have my xbox and my computer connected to my router and a laptop that uses WiFi (problems occurred before i purchased laptop so thats not the problem).
if anyone knows what to do please post.
thanks.
Xbox live and computer problems...?
When this is happening (the XBox stopping other traffic), can the computers ping the router? (Start%26gt;run%26gt;command%26gt;ping {router ip address})
If not, then the router either has a bad switch section, or the network port on the XBox is faulty.
Does this happen without the XBox port forwards in place? Try to reset the router (hard reset, hold the reset button in for 30 seconds). With everything hooked up, does it work?
What model and version # is the router? Some say they work with XBox when they actually don't (at least, without updated firmware).
Hope this helps.
